Extreme Polar Adventure: Special North and South Pole Exhibition at the Songshan Feng Tian Temple
Five key themes that teach through play. Free admission.

The melting of the polar ice has been accelerated by global climate change. This has severely impacted not only the residents, vegetation, and animals in the polar regions, but has also triggered climate and ecological problems around the world. Founded on a shared concern for environmental issues, the Songshan Feng Tian Temple and the National Museum of Natural Science have collaborated to bring the Extreme Polar Adventure: Special North and South Pole Exhibition to the Heavenly Lord Gallery at the Songshan Feng Tian Temple from January 7 until June 4. Through an edutainment approach, we hope that members of the public will absorb knowledge through play and share our concern for polar issues. Curatorial funding has been provided in whole by the Songshan Feng Tian Temple, and the exhibition is free to the public.

The exhibition includes five key exhibition themes: the Ends of the Earth: the North and South Poles; Polar Plants and Animals; Tales of Polar Explorers; the Maritime Collision between the Titanic and an Iceberg; and Earth SOS. We hope that these themes will enable visitors to learn about the unique geographical, climate, and ecological characteristics of the polar regions, so as to realize the importance of protecting the polar regions, as well as to support the concept of sustainable development of resources. In addition, we hope to inspire visitors to be fearless in their spirit of adventure through stories about polar explorers.

A number of games have been designed for this exhibition with young visitors in mind. For instance, visitors can walk into the stomach of a full-scaled inflatable humpback whale to examine what the whale has eaten. There is also a “Carbon Capture Battle” inflatable ball-pit; the “Polar Explorer Shackleton’s  Most Successful Failed Adventure” experience; a film on the polar region and aurora; and interactive polar exhibitions; all sure to appeal to the young and the old.

Beginning from January 7, come visit the Songshan Feng Tian Temple and enter a fantastic polar world! Learn about the unique geographical, climate, and ecological characteristic of the polar regions through games; and understand the environmental issues and polar exploration through experience.
